SRIVASTAVA TWINS SWEEP TOP PRIZES

After a well-deserved summer break, QGL resumed normal operations with its 227th Tournament played on Stableford Format in hot and humid conditions on the DGC Academy Course.

Sunil Talwar and Partho Saha tee’d off early with a good start, but withered away in extremely humid conditions, leaving the way for the Srivastava Twins to race to the top of the Leaderboard.

Prakash Aiyer and Ashish Jain put up a brave fight, but only the stylish Dr. Samir Gupta could make sure that the Twins did not bag the top two prizes.

In the end, the humidity took its toll on everyone, leaving the three most resilient players on the podium to claim the prizes. It was a close fight, as the top 3 finished with the exact same stableford points, the final positions only to be decided on countback.

Ambassador Vipul, clearly the most improved player in QGL in 2025, gave away the prizes to Jay Srivastava for finishing 3rd, Dr. Samir Gupta for finishing 2nd, and Ashok Srivastava for winning the tournament.

Vice President Sanjay Jain gave away special prizes to Ambassador Vipul for Longest Putt, and to Ravishankar for Nearest to Pin.

Jain & Gupta win QGL 224

The lure of breakfast with hot tea after the 3rd Academy Green is the prime reason why QGL members religiously turn up at the first tee at 6am on Saturday mornings despite late Friday nights with family and friends.

This time, QGL’s 224th Tournament was played on a 2-Person Team Better Ball Format, where each team comprising of 2 golfers played their own ball throughout, carding the Lower Net Score between them on each hole to count as the Team Score for that hole.

The game had its twists and turns, with the Greens being unplayable due to morning dew. But as the Sun warmed up the day, everyone started playing better.

The first group to tee off were “Team Bhupendra Jain & Dr. Samir Gupta” along with opponents “Team Sunil Talwar & Amit Sah”.  Both Teams set a blistering pace right from the start, which the other Teams found difficult to compete with.

Team Talwar & Sah, who played pristine golf, carded a Net Score of 31, but unfortunately that wasn’t good enough to beat Team Jain & Gupta, both displaying amazing teamwork and carding the day’s Best Net Score of 28 to win the Tournament.

Sunil Talwar was also rewarded for his pinpoint accuracy on Hole 6, where he won the NEAREST TO PIN prize.

QGL Vice President and Tournament Director Sanjay Jain gave away the Prizes to the Winners.

The Diplomat Strikes Again

On a gorgeous Saturday morning in perfect golfing conditions at the DGC, QGL’s 223rd Tournament kicked off with Sunil Talwar instantly blazing his way to the top of the Leaderboard.

As the day progressed, Prakash Iyer and Ashish Jain got their mojo working, resulting in Talwar, Iyer and Jain constantly exchanging places at the top of the Leaderboard.

But little did they know, a predator was lurking amongst them, slowly creeping up the Leaderboard unnoticed.

By the time the last group had come in and the dust had settled, the tide had turned. To everyone’s surprise, the ever improving Indian Ambassador Vipul had pipped everyone to the post by carding his lowest ever Gross. The New Year might have just begun for everyone, but “The Diplomat” had already notched up his 2nd QGL victory of 2025 in as many weeks with the day’s Best Net Score of 33.

Ashish Jain’s commendable effort helped him clinch 2nd spot with a Net 34. But a dog-fight for the 3rd spot saw Prakash Iyer battle it out with Sunil Talwar; Iyer eventually prevailing with a Net 35 on countback.

Despite challenging conditions, Ashok Srivastava’s Birthday Wish finally came true, when he defeated the entire field with a near perfect game to win First Prize with a Best Net Score of 32.

Jay Srivastava tried his best for a ONE-TWO podium finish for the Srivastava Clan, but Prakash Iyer, who had other ideas, made his move on the final hole to spoil the party by sliding into 2nd place with his Net Score of 35 on countback.

After a freezing January 6am tee-off at the Doha Golf Club, QGL Patron and Indian Ambassador H.E. Vipul warmed up to the New Year with a gritty round of Golf against a formidable field (which included the 2024 DGC Club Champion) by putting his hands on the Winner’s Trophy with the Best Net score of 33.

Dr. Samir Gupta, Ashok Srivastava and DGC 2024 Club Champion Chandrashekar Angadi fought ferociously for the Runner-up spot, each scoring a Net 35, but QGL President Manoj Megchiani stole that honor with his Net 35 on countback.

Despite frequent doses of piping hot Masala Tea, everyone else struggled with the biting cold and early morning stiffness. But QGL Vice President Sanjay Jain redeemed himself with a textbook putt that won him the LONGEST PUTT prize on Hole 9.
