Qatar Golf Lovers (QGL) was founded in April 2001 with a view to promote golf amongst the residents of Qatar.
From humble beginnings starting with 8 Founder Members inspired by Dr. Ashok Amrohi, QGL, under the able leadership of Founder President P. K. Mathew (popularly known as PEEKAY), quickly grew to become the largest golf society in Qatar with over 100 active members belonging to over a dozen different nationalities.
QGL has already organized 217 monthly tournaments since its inception.
QGL's 218th tournament schedule will be announced soon.
Most tournaments are sponsored by reputed companies in Doha, where 40 to 50 golfers participate in each tournament.
QGL also organizes group coaching lessons by PGA professionals for those interested in playing golf.
QGL maintains its own unique handicap system for its members which is updated automatically after every tournament.
Tournaments are usually held at the Academy Course of the Doha Golf Club, followed by a prize distribution dinner, which is enthusiastically attended by all players and their spouses.
In the month of May each year, QGL celebrates its anniversary event with a tournament followed by a gala dinner where Annual Awards for excellence are awarded to deserving golfers, and members are recognized for their achievements as well as contribution to QGL.
On 28th August 2020, after 20 years of dedicated and devoted service to QGL, President Peekay handed over the reins of his beloved QGL to Manoj Megchiani and Sanjay Jain.
QGL is a private social golf society. Resident Golfers of Qatar are eligible for Membership by invitation only.
